Care and care work (2020-)

Since late 2019, the Partnership has focused much of its work on care, caring, carers and care workers. The pandemic has demonstrated the many problems that exist in this field. The social care sector is in crisis and many unpaid carers are barely able to shoulder their responsibilities. At the same time, those using care often do not get the quality of care they need.

Several reports have been published. For example, on young carers (2021) and on carers from an ethnic minority background (2023). One report, published in 2020 in the midst of the coronavirus crisis, shows how Covid-19 has impacted carers and does so through their own narratives.

The focus on care also led to a report, published in 2021, which proposes the addition to Scotland’s National Performance Framework of a new Outcome on care. This report, presenting a full blueprint for such a new outcome, became the basis for the A Scotland that Cares campaign, spearheaded by Oxfam Scotland.

In 2026/27, the Partnership pursues further projects on care and caring.
