In summer 2024, the Partnership issued a funding call to the third sector in Scotland. Third sector organisations were asked to formulate a research plan on the basis of which they would work with UWS academics. Academics were then asked to respond to this research plan so that then a joint research proposal could be developed.

In February 2025, the decision was made on which project to fund. All submissions were of excellent quality throughout, so the choice was very difficult. In the end, a joint bid by Scottish Families Affected by Alcohol and Drugs (SFAD) and Carers Trust Scotland (CTS) was successful, supported by four academics from UWS.
